Ibro Soumah is launching a weekly djembe class in New Brighton, Wirral on Monday Evenings; 7pm - 9pm.

Classes will be starting on Monday, 7th June 2010

Ibro Soumah is one of the UK’s leading Dundunfolas and an exceptional djembe player. Originally from Guinea Conakry, West Africa, Ibro has been teaching and performing for almost 20 years, and has worked with some of the leading ballet troupes in West Arica, including; Ballet Watafre (Guinea), Bougarabou (Senegal) and Badeya (The Gambia). In the UK, Ibro performs with Nansady Keita’s all-Guinean ensemble, Petite Guinee.

ABOUT THE CLASS

Classes are taught in the traditional West African way, with one rhythm studied over a period of 3 or 4 weeks and an emphasis on developing good technique, fluency, speed and stamina!

Students will learn Malinke, Susu, Fula, Beresay and Baga etc. rhythms, exactly as they are played and used in Guinea, West Africa.

New students are asked to join on the first week of a new rhythm so please contact us before coming along.

Classes are suitable for players of all levels of experience. Beginners are very welcome!


COST AND DRUM HIRE

Classes cost £7 (£5 concessions). Drum hire is £2 (£1 concessions).
If you wish to hire a drum for the class, you must contact us in advance to book a drum.

VENUE AND DIRECTIONS

Classes are held at:

New Brighton Community Centre
1a Hope Street
New Brighton
Wirral
CH45 2LN

The venue is about a 10 minute walk from New Brighton Train Station.

It is also accessible via bus. From Liverpool; the 433 and 432, and from Birkenhead the 410, stop on Rowson Street, which is just a few minutes walk away from the venue.

If travelling by car, parking should not be a problem outside the venue.
