Hi there! If you're in Bagshot, would Farnham be a reasonable distance for you to travel? I give small group drumcircles. And even some latin percussion to boot if enough people want it.

West African drumming and dance workshops in Burkina Faso with Beeogo-Yinga

22nd February – 16th March 2011

Come to Burkina Faso and melt away the winter chills! It will be an unforgettable experience that will leave your spirits high. The dynamic atmosphere of the workshops will inspire and energise you. There will be the opportunity to volunteer to work with local children.
You will also have the chance to participate in the most famous African movie festival: FESPACO.


Abdoulaye Sanfo (known as Alai) is a highly talented and experienced musician. Over the past 15 years he has built himself a strong reputation performing and running workshops throughout the world including the UK, Europe, USA and Canada.

He will be teaching with Alain Rouamba, another gifted and experienced musician from Burkina Faso who has been performing and teaching over the past 10 years. He also has a reputation for delivering workshops and performances of a high quality. There will be the chance to learn differents intruments from other local talented musicians. One of the most famous dancers from Burkina Faso will be teaching a vibrant and dynamic dance class.

Beeogo-Yinga means ‘the future’ and this association was established in London by Abdoulaye Sanfo and Alain Rouamba.

1 week course:

Drumming workshops
Dance workshops
A combination of both drumming and dance
OR the option of xylophone, ngoni and other African instruments

2 week course:
This includes:
Drumming workshops
Dance workshops
A combination of both drumming and dance
OR the option of xylophone, ngoni and other African instruments

(Both courses start on 23rd February)

The price includes:
The workshops
Transport from the airport to the accommodation return and from accommodation to workshops
Accommodation including 3 meals a day
Day trips to see local attractions
(*Please note the price does not include flights)

Day trips will be organised for you to discover the culture of Burkina Faso, including visiting a park of granite sculptures, a trip to the seaside, a crocodile park and an arts and crafts market. We will also visit the second capital Bobo Dioulasso where you can see the most amazing waterfall in the Banfora. All these trips are fairtrade. During this time there will also be an international film festival called FESPACO which we will go to.

When the classes finish each day you are free to do what you want. In the third week you will get the chance to perform! We will spend 3 extra days to rehearse and after that you will have 4 days to do your own thing.

By participating on this trip you will help the Association Beeogo-Yinga which is supporting young people in the local community who are disadvantaged. So far land has been bought with a plan to build a school in the near future.

The following is required for the trip:

Vaccinations for Yellow Fever and Meningitis which are compulsory. Please check with your doctor well in advance.
A valid passport.
A Tourist Visa which will cost approximately £20 and can be bought from Ouagadougou airport.
