Hi there! If you're in Bagshot, would Farnham be a reasonable distance for you to travel? I give small group drumcircles. And even some latin percussion to boot if enough people want it.

Best

Drumming Workshops

We have a full programme of learning for the two days. We hope everyone will be both

inspired and challenged. Participants will be divided into two groups so all of you gain the

most out of the weekend.

Drums can be hired for use during the workshop. Please indicate requirements on booking

form.

The minimum age of workshop participants is 16 years. Entry into the evening extravaganza

is for over 18s only.

Levels

Group 1: Complete Beginners and Beginners
Ideal if you have not played before, or for those of you who have played for a year or so

fairly often but are not too confident. You still need to practice your technique and need

a bit of time to pick things up.

Group 2: Intermediate and Advanced
You have been playing for at least two years, you practice regularly, and have performed in

public. You have a basic understanding of the role of the support rhythms and the bass

drums and can play slaps and tones confidently. You can pick new things up quickly, and

would like the challenge of learning some solo phrases.

Programme

One day will be spent working with Mockoulo Sawane and one day with................ These

vibrant teachers will inspire you with the musical tradition of their native countries,

Senegal (Cassamance) and Guinea (Hamana).

Participants will experience the different teaching styles of these two teachers and learn

about the history of the rhythms and the importance placed on the preservation of the music.

These teachers are living archives of the traditions of their societies and will share with

you their passion and knowledge.

A rhythm will be learnt with each teacher, so by the end of the weekend, participants will

have studied two different rhythms in depth.

The climax of the weekend will be an evening of entertainment, which will be free to

participants.

As participants you will perform the rhythms learnt alongside your teachers, and also have

the rare opportunity to experience the talent and energy of ............ and Mockoulo as they

perform for you alongside an ensemble. A treat for all West African music enthusiasts. The

evening is guaranteed to be a thrilling and inspirational event. Participants are

encouraged to invite friends and family to the evening performances, tickets will be on sale

for a fee of 7 (concessions available). Manding Kaira support music related projects in

West Africa.
